Sales so far have been steady. People frequently ask how we are doing with the "recession", and things are OK. Everybody still needs clothes, so I think we are not being hit as much as some other businesses. Sales of pants, jeans, underwear, sweat pants, sweat shirts, sweat suits, sweater vests, robes, and thermals have been strong this season. You can scroll down in my blog to see a list of all the new items that have come in recently.
GO FALCONS!!

Flori-duh VS Bam-Bam

More Levi's and Brad

Front of the Class

On this Sunday night, December 7, be sure to watch the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" movie on CBS called Front of the Class http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/article%7C10001%7C10051%7C/HallmarkSite/HallmarkHallOfFame/HHOF_TOP. It is the story of a real person named Brad Cohen who has Tourette Syndrome http://www.tsa-usa.org/. I used to work with Brad at the Atlanta Braves. He is a good guy, and I'll be watching!! For more info, check out his website at http://www.classperformance.com/. Also, check out the Living section of today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution for a great article on Brad.

More shipments

I got in a shipment of Levi's Action Slacks and Dockers. I also got in a shipment of Perry Suspenders. If you don't know what these are, they are a very good seller for us. Perry Suspenders hook on to your belt, so if you wear a tool belt, or have other heavy items on your belt like keys, a walkie talkie, or carry a gun (law enforcement or security guards), these suspenders help to hold up your belt and pants (and that is always a good thing)!

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Levi's and Vote

We just got in a shipment of more Levi's jeans.

And don't forget to vote today if you are in a district involved in a run-off!

60 Years!!

It is official -- today is the day!! I still have here in the store (ask to see it if you are a history buff) the letter that my Grandfather sent out announcing that he was the sole owner of all outstanding stock of Kaplan's Department Store, and changed the name to Leiter's Department Store. So, today is officially 60 years in business!! Thanks, H. D. Leiter!!

The Tale of Two Teams

I guess that is why they are the "professionals"...

I think all season long, UGA has been two teams. One is the First Half team, and then the Second Half team. I don't know what happens at half time to either wake them up or put them to sleep, but today they were nonexistent after halftime. I already got an ear full from my buddy the Tech graduate. Now Tech ends up with the same regular season record as UGA, and will probably be ranked higher!!

So, how about those Falcons...

Friday, November 28, 2008

UGA - GA Tech

I have seen 5 "professional" sportscasters/writers, and 4 of them have picked GA Tech to win... Hello?!? Now, I know UGA isn't exactly blowing their opponents off the field, but Tech lost to UNC -- UNC!! Come on people...

Remember your Family

My Brother and I drove up to Charlotte today to visit our 93 year old Grandmother.  She has become too frail to travel, and for the first time in a long time, our family will not be with her for Thanksgiving.  This is just a reminder to everyone to cherish the family that you have with you, and reach out to those who cannot be with you!

http://leitersbigandtall.blogspot.com/

Due to foreseen circumstances beyond my control, this will now be my only blog location. This is a better and more advanced spot for blogging. Be sure to check out all of the new features!!

Here is the good stuff:

The postcards were mailed this morning, so if you are on our USPS mailing list, watch out for those soon. If not, here is the sale for the email list customers:

A sale notice was posted here!! Did you see it? If not, email me at Leitersbigtall@aol.com to get on the list!

Now is the time that I would like to talk about wants and needs. Giving clothes for Christmas has become something that people don't do as much anymore, I think mostly because people want something else. If you went to Best Buy during December the past few years, there was frequently a 20 minutes line waiting just to get in line to check out at a register! The cool new gifts have been what people want, like a GPS, an iPod, a laptop, or something else electronic like that. But this season, let's consider the economy -- This year more than ever, we all need to shift our thinking from what we want to what we need. Everybody needs clothes -- and everybody needs new clothes. Are you tired of wearing the same outfit every week, or ladies, seeing your man in the same outfit all the time? We all need new clothes (me included). Again, more than recent years, just think about the difference between what we want (iPod) and what we need (new clothes) and what is more important in this economy.

Blog posts from 11/13/08 to 11/20/08

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! These posts got lost in cyberspace!! A short summary of what was in the posts:

  • We got in a shipment of new argyle sweater vests up to size 6X
  • We got in another shipment of Levi's jeans and Dockers pants
  • The Dawgs won and dropped a spot in the BCS?!?
  • Thank you for your business to Kennestone Heart Physician's Group www.kennestoneheart.com
  • The AAMCO on Cobb Parkway tried (unsuccessfully) to rip me off.

Blog posts from 10/03/08 to 11/12/08

11/12/08 - Check out today's edition of the Marietta Daily Journal, the cover of the Lifestyle section, for a great picture!! You can click on the following link, but it might only show up today: http://www.mdjonline.com/images/pdfpages/18.pdf
We just got in another big shipment of Dockers, Levi's jeans, and Levi's Action Slacks.

11/11/08 - Today we got in a shipment from Greystone. This includes various items such as jersey sweatpants, all-elastic waist twill pants, jeans, hoodies, and jackets, in sizes 2X to 10X.

11/10/08 - We got in another shipment of Falcon Bay shirts, but these are from the After Dark line. These are nice fancy blue patterned shirts that would be good for clubbing, or something fancy like that.
That was a nerve-racking game, but a win is a win. Bulldogs back in the top10 !!

11/07/08 - We just got in two big boxes full of Levi's jeans, in style numbers 550 relaxed fit and 560 comfort fit.

11/06/08 - Congratulations to Kennestone Heart Physician's Group www.kennestoneheart.com!! Kennestone Heart was one of only five medical practices in Georgia to recently receive a Health Technology Award presented by the Physicians' Institute of the Medical Association of Georgia for Excellence in Medicine. Great job!!

11/05/08 - We just got in a shipment of really nice new shirts from Falcon Bay. They are half plaids and half stripes in a nice Fall burgandy color. The sizes run XLTall to 6X Tall and 2X big to 4X big.

11/04/08 - I voted -- did you? I got up at 7:00am and went to my polling location, and the line was about 100 people deep. I waited for 15 minutes and moved about 5 people along. I did the math, so I had to leave. I went home to get ready for work, and then went back on my way in to work. I guess they had worked out the delays, and I only had to wait about 10 minutes to cast my vote! So, it's official, and I am crossing my fingers that my candidates will end up victorious!!
Congratulations to John T. Sherrer, R.Ph., who was elected to the 2008-2009 Executive Committee of the National Community Pharmacists Association www.ncpanet.org. NCPA's Executive Committee represents community pharmacists nationwide. John is a community and independent pharmacy owner working primarily out of Kenmar Pharmacy www.kenmarpharmacy.com in Marietta, and he is also a customer. Congrats!!

11/03/08 - The latest sale notice was posted here. Did you see it? If not, email me at Leitersbigtall@aol.com to get on the list!

OK, the UGA/FLA game was more painful. UGA did not look like a pre-season #1 at all. But still, UGA has only been beaten by two teams now in the top five. The newest BCS has UGA at 13, which might be about right. If they can (and should) win out the rest of their games, they could still finish in the top 10. But, no SEC championship game...

11/01/08 - I'm a member of the Gator-Hater Club -- are you?? LET'S GO DAWGS!! This is a BIG one!!
A Big Thank You for your business goes to The Walker School Booster Club www.thewalkerschool.org!!

10/31/08 - I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! Let's all be careful and watch our speed when driving. Watch out for the little witches and goblins in masks near the road.

10/30/08 - Last night, we (and when I say we, I mean my wife -- I just showed up) helped to host a Reception together with The Atlanta Opera Honoring Grammy Award-Winning Opera Singer and Marietta Native Jennifer Larmore. I great time was had by all, and big thanks go to all of the other co-hosts!! For more info, check out www.atlantaopera.org.

10/27/08 - The Dawgs took care of it at LSU!! Moved up in the BCS, now comes another test with the Gators. LET'S GO DAWGS!!

10/25/08 - The website changes are set!! The minor change to this site is that now you can also reach this site by using www.leitersbigtall.com. The other change is my third website! This is devoted mostly to casual clothing, or Company Casuals. There is a large variety of different items available, and my target customer is if someone wants casual uniforms for their office, this site has lots of great choices. Check it out and let me know what you think!! http://www.leitersuniforms.com
GO DAWGS!! It's the Battle in the Bayou!!

10/24/08 - Now is the time to start thinking about Halloween costumes. We get a lot of people every year come in to make their idea for a costume work. We have a large variety of items in stock in regular and big and tall sizes, and some of the more popular costumes requests we get are doctors, nurses, and chefs. If you have a Halloween costume idea revolving around needing some type of specialized clothing, come in and see us -- I bet we can help you out!!

10/23/08 - I just got in a very large shipment of sweat shirts and sweat pants, the same styles listed here on this website http://www.realpagessites.com/leitersbigandtall/sweatsuits/. It is getting colder -- time to stay warm!!

10/22/08 - I have spent most of today working on one minor (very minor) change to this website, and also working on my third Uniforms website. Everything should be ready by the end of this week, and I'll post the updates and changes here first!!

10/21/08 - A big Thank You for your business to Atlanta Water And Fire Restoration!! If you have any water or fire damage, call them at 770-883-4953.

10/20/08 - A big Thank You for your business to Any Pest www.anypest.com!!

10/18/08 - Good, the Dawgs took care of Vandy. Knowshon ran pretty good and Blair Walsh redeemed himself with the kick at the end of the game. Next week -- looks tough!

10/17/08 - It's the Christians vs the Mormons!!
Is it just me or is the Thursday night College Football game always the most exciting? Last night, Texas Christian www.tcu.edu beat previously undefeated BYU www.byu.edu. I would like to say that UGA can move up, but that hasn't happened yet! Now UGA needs to show Vandy www.vanderbilt.edu what real SEC football is like!!

10/16/08 - If you live in State District 38, on election day November 4, please consider voting for Steve "Thunder" Tumlin for State Representative. Thunder is a Marietta native, very smart, very nice, and is also a customer! For more information, check out http://www.stevetumlin.org/.

10/15/08 - I am working on yet a third website for our store. This site will be geared more towards "Company Casuals" which is like casual uniforms for an office environment. If and when it is up and running, I'll post it here first!!

10/13/08 - Three of the top four teams lose, and UGA doesn't move? OK....

10/12/08 - We will be open tomorrow for the Columbus Day "Holiday", so if you are off work, come on by!!
And how about the Atlanta Falcon, winning with one second left!! Jason Elam redeemed himself!!

10/11/08 - The Dawgs got it done!! They got an important SEC victory!! Looks like a lot of shakeup going on in the Top Ten. Let's see where the Dawgs move up to!!

10/10/08 - We got in a shipment of long sleeve T-shirts. Stay casual and warm!!
Back in the saddle again with the Dawgs... It was kind of nice to have the bye week to get over the hangover loss to BamBam. Let's gear it back up to beat Orange!! GO DAWGS!!

10/09/08 - We got in some nice reversible camo jackets. There are three different camo prints in nylon on one side, and black fleece on the other. Hunting season is here!!

10/08/08 - I really don't watch a lot of TV, but I have started watching one new show that might be worth checking out. Sons of Anarchy http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/soa/ is on the FX Network Wednesdays at 10pm. It has been described as The Sopranos on motorcycles. It follows a group of bikers in California. I would give it 8 out of 10 stars.

10/06/08 - We got in a shipment of one piece strap leather belts that are a new design for us. It is kind of hard to explain here, but if you think about the holes in a belt, there are now two side by side, and the holes run up the length of the entire belt. They are really nice looking in black or brown.

10/05/08 - Have you been to Marietta Pizza Company www.mariettapizza.com on the Marietta Square? I highly recommend it!! Friday night I had a salad with the best creamy Italian dressing I have ever had. Then I had a very large slice of pizza with pepperoni, real mushrooms (not the processed canned type), and fried chicken as my toppings!! Wash it down with a cold Bud, and I will rate it a strong 9 out of 10 stars!! Marietta Pizza Company is also very reasonably priced, as six of us ate and the bill was only $53ish dollars. Check it out!!

10/03/08 - We just received a shipment of Moleskin shirts. We have carried the Moleskin henley shirts for a few years, and they have been big sellers. This year, we got in more henleys, but also some long sleeve golf shirts and some really nice two pocket with flaps button up shirts in Moleskin. These shirts kind of remind me of outdoorsy type shirts good for camping or hunting. Moleskin is a really nice, really soft no-iron fabric that you need to feel to believe!! Come on in and check them out!!
I also have an idea for a double outing for you. Do you like spicy hot dogs? Come by here around lunchtime during the week and then you can head on down to Brandi's World Famous Hot Dogs. It is about a quarter of a mile down the street from us and it is kind of a local treasure here in Marietta. It used to be Betty's World Famous Hot Dogs, but Betty retired and Brandi bought it out, and as she said, "The only thing that will change is the name." I had a chili cheese dog and fries for lunch yesterday, and I will give it a solid 10 out of 10 stars!! The chili has the spicy kick that will sometimes kick you out of your chair!! I highly recommend Brani's. They also serve hamburgers, onion rings, and chips, and of course, slaw is available for a topping. For more information, call 770-422-3681.

Blog posts from 09/26/08 to 10/02/08

10/02/08 - Watch out for Ludlow Porch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_Porch this Saturday, October 4, as a presenter at the second annual Georgia Radio Hall of Fame dinner http://www.accessatlanta.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/accessatlanta/radiotalk/entries/2008/09/16/916_sunday_pape.html. He will be wearing a brand new suit purchased from Leiter's Big and Tall!! Congrats to Mr. Porch -- he was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame http://www.grhof.com/ in 2007.

10/01/08 - This Saturday, October 4, from 5 to 8 pm, The Youth Museum http://www.ccym.20m.com/ will have its Sixth Annual Barbecue and Silent Auction. Rain or shine, you can enjoy live music and a selection of barbeque food to tempt every palate. All proceeds benefit The Youth Museum. My Mother has been associated with them almost from the beginning, so I spend a lot of time growing up at The Youth Museum. To purchase tickets or for more information, call 770-427-2563 or email at youthmuseum@aol.com.

09/30/08 - The last sale notice was posted here. Did you see it? To be notified of future sales, you can register at www.realpagessites.com/leitersbigandtall/mailinglist/

09/29/08 - I just got in a Wrangler shipment of pants and jeans and an Enro shipment of long sleeve dress shirts.
Two brothers who are also customers are working on starting up a website geared towards amateur athletes. Check out www.sportsiplay.com. Look for it soon!!

09/28/08 - OK, that was kind of painful. I say "kind of" because it was very unrealistic to expect that UGA would go undefeated this season. And, if you are going to get beat, then get beat by another team ranked in the top 10. I think that UGA should still stay ranked in the top 10, but seeing as how previously they won all of their games and still lost two places, who knows what will happen. All they need to do is keep winning from here on out, and I think everything will still be fine. Bama drew blood, but the Bulldog nation bleeds Red and Black!!

09/27/08 - Do you like popcorn? Do you like to read magazines? Do you like to read magazines while eating popcorn? Do you want to support my kid's fundraisers? Then you are in luck!! If you would like to renew or subscribe to any magazines, my kids are selling most magazines that are G or PG rated for a fundraiser for their school. If you like popcorn, my son is selling different types for a fundraiser for his cub scout troop http://www.scouting.org/cubscouts.aspx. They have some really great popcorn, like regular and light popcorn, and different kinds of chocolate covered popcorn. The chocolate is what we got last year, and it was great!! If you need anything, and would like to support two great causes, please let me know!! Thanks!!
GO DAWGS!! Beat Bama!!

09/26/08 -
Beavers One, Beavers All, Let's all do the Beaver crawl! (make crawling motions with hands or crawl on ground) Beavers Two, Beavers Three, Let's all climb the Beaver tree! (make motion like climbing a tree) Beavers Four, Beavers Five, Let's all do the Beaver Jive! (do hand jive motions) Beavers Six, Beavers Seven, Let's all go to Beaver heaven! (do hand prayer, close eyes, and sway) Beavers Eight, Beavers Nine, STOP! - - It's Beaver Time! (Do crazy dance and Nah, Nah, Na-nah singing of Hammer Time song) http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/song/beaver_dance-1133.asp
Did you see that game last night?!? I am now the #1 fan of the Oregon State Beavers http://oregonstate.edu/!! Unranked Oregon State beat (soon to be formerly) #1 USC http://www.usc.edu/!!
And speaking of football, are you going to a high school football game tonight? It's going to be a little chilly. You might need a new jacket... And speaking of new jackets, I just got in a shipment of new jackets, and these are going to be a HOT item!! Do you remember the old Member's Only coats? Well, Cotton Traders has done a replica style!! I just got them in, in solid black or solid tan in sizes 2X to 6X. I still see some people wearing the old style, and I still get a few requests every year for people asking if we still carry the old Members Only. Come check them out, they will not last long!!

Blog posts from 09/17/08 to 09/25/08

09/25/08 - We got in a shipment of Falcon Bay button up plaid long sleeve sport shirts. There are a few nice new prints here!!

09/24/08 - A big thank you for your business goes out to Kennestone Heart Physicians Group www.kennestoneheart.com!!
We just got in a shipment of more Players underwear, including undershirts, briefs, boxers, and mid length briefs.

09/23/08 - In tribute to Larry Munson, the voice of the Georgia Bulldogs, who announced his retirement. Thanks for 43 great years!!

09/22/08 - Fall is here!! The fall shipments are starting to roll in. I just got in a big Falcon Bay shipment, which most notably includes a lot of long sleeve button up shirts in nice stripes, and some solid black two pockets shirts with flaps, and some really nice shirts that I would best describe as a long sleeve subtle Hawaiian stripe. See them and you will love them!!

09/21/08 - How bout them Dawgs!! They beat the heat in the desert!! From Knowshon's Superman play to A.J. Green's great catches, the Dawgs took care of the Devils like champs!! Bring on those elephants!!

09/20/08 - On Thursday, September 25, 2008, the March of Dimes is hosting the Signature Chefs Auction at the Marietta Country Club www.mariettacountryclub.org at 6:00pm. You can sample savory signature dishes by preeminent local chefs, and there will be live music and an exciting silent and live auction including a chance to win a one carat diamond and Rolex www.rolex.com watch and private winery tours in Napa Valley. The March of Dimes is committed to improving the health of babies through the prevention of birth defects, prematurity and infant mortality. For more information call 404-350-9800 EXT 208, or check out www.marchofdimes.com/georgia. We have been to this event the past couple of years, and it is a great cause. Our twins were born six weeks premature, and spent about four weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which is supported by the March of Dimes.

09/19/08 - If you are a sports fan and don't read Jeff Schultz in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution www.ajc.com, then I highly recommend it. Every Friday during football season, he gives his weekend picks, and I usually have to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard. Today, of course, he picks UGA to win, but in picking Alabama at Arkansas, he writes "Nick Saban vs. Bobby Petrino. This might be the first time in Saban's career that he's the sentimental favorite." That's a good one, but the next one is gold. LSU at Auburn - "It's a good thing Auburn went to a new offense this season. Otherwise there's no way they pound Mississippi State last week 3-2." What did I tell you -- comic genius !! That game looked like a baseball score. By the way, Jeff Schultz picks Bama and LSU to both cover the spread. GO DAWGS!!

09/17/08 - I just got in another shipment of UGA scrub tops. This is a re-order because I sold out all but one from the first shipment !! I only have UGA in stock, but I can special order (and have already) most other large schools, including all 12 SEC teams. For information on styles and teams available, check out http://www.landau.com/Collegiate.aspx. Most are available from X-Small to 5X, and also in kids sizes !! Please let me know if I can get any for you.

Blog posts from 09/02/08 to 09/16/08

09/16/08 - Did you feel the chill in the air this morning? It felt good. In response, I came in and immediately started rearranging our racks. I made a pre-season sale rack filled with Fall weather clothes, and a end-of-season rack so you can still get some deals on short sleeve shirts. I have them both marked at 30 % off, but if you tell me that you read this in the blog, I could probably be conned into 40% OFF !! Hurry, they won't last long !!

09/13/08 - Wow, was that game stressful !! The South Carolina defense was tough, and UGA needs to get a hold of the penalties, but The Dawgs pulled it out, and a win is a win !!
A big thank you for your business to the City of Marietta Water Department www.mariettawater.com!!

09/12/08 - Did you see UNC www.unc.edu take care of Rutgers last night? That was a good one!! People often ask me why we have a UNC clock as our store clock, and it is kind of a funny story, but it makes sense in the end. Back when we were on the Marietta Square www.themariettasquare.com, we got in a whole run of SEC www.secsports.com and ACC www.theacc.com clocks, and the UNC clock was the only one that never sold! So, it became our store clock, which is OK because my mother is from Chapel Hill and her entire family (except her) went to UNC. My 93 year old grandmother is a HUGE UNC fan! So I always root for UNC (after UGA of course). Usually it is for basketball, but football works too !!

09/11/08 - In remembrance of the victims, families, and everybody affected by 9/11.

09/08/08 - We got in a shipment of Levi's and Dockers today.

09/07/08 - I went to the UGA game yesterday. It was great to get back to Athens, since it has been almost 4 years. What a great game! It is hard to decide what was the most exciting play -- either Demarcus Dobbs' interception return for a touchdown, or Knowshon Moreno's hurdle over the Chippewa!! I guess I'll have to go with Knowshon, because he is still able to make everybody's jaw drop. Great game !! 2-0 !! http://www.georgiadogs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8800&ATCLID=1576675

09/05/08 - We just got in a big shipment of Greystone sweatpants. These are nice because they are a nice thin jersey weight (like a T-shirt material) and they are open bottom, meaning they have no elastic down at the ankles. They come in black, navy, light grey, and brown, sizes 2X to 6X.

09/04/08 - As reported in today's Marietta Daily Journal www.mdjonline.com, Guenter Kittel has been chosen as senior vice president and chief credit officer for Sunrise Bank of Atlanta in Midtown, an affiliate of Capitol Bancorp www.sunrisebankofatlanta.com. Guenter is a customer and a good guy. Congrats!!

Blog posts from 08/16/08 to 09/01/08

09/01/08 - We went to the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta www.fpcmarietta.org Annual Church Picnic and Movie last night. It was nice to have good food and see good friends. The movie was Horton Hears a Who www.hortonmovie.com, which of course is a children's movie. It was just OK -- I would give it 7 out of 10 stars.

08/31/08 - We ate at Hooters www.hooters.com last night, and if you like wings, then Hooters is a must. Hooters hook is that their wings are breaded, so they have just the right crunch, heat and texture for great wings with the best Naturally Fresh Bleu Cheese www.naturallyfresh.com. Hooters is know for their wings, I guess which is to say they are not know for everything else. If you take away all of the other food, then I will give the wings a 9 out of 10 stars. Of course, I only go for the wings, so that's why it makes sense! Hooters corporate office actually bought some work uniforms from me a few years ago. They needed some costumes for a convention.
How Bout Them DAWGS!! www.georgiadogs.com

08/30/08 - We ate at Sam & Dave's BBQ-2 www.bbq1.net last night, and if you like BBQ, then listen up! Sam & Dave's has some of the best BBQ I have ever had! Sam, who is also a customer, said that as far as he knows, they are the only BBQ restaurant to ever be rated by Zagat www.zagat.com ! I got the pork spare ribs, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. The ribs were soft and tender and just pulled off the bone. The BBQ sauce comes on the side, so sometimes I dipped, but the ribs are so good plain, that sometimes I did not dip! The baked beans were excellent, dark with a good thick sauce, with just the right amount of sweet zing. Of course, anybody who has heard of the mac and cheese knows that it is the best around. I will give it 10 out of 10 stars. If you like BBQ and have never tried Sam & Dave's, I recommend it 100% !!

Blog posts from 08/13/08 to 08/15/08

08/15/08 - My wife and I went out last night to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary with our friends Parker http://www.cmamlaw.com/ and Melissa. We first met at Uncle Julio's Restaurant http://www.unclejulios.com/ on Peachtree. It was a nice place, and we were kind of in a hurry, so they were able to get us in and out pretty quick. I had the chicken enchiladas, which were very good. I will give them a rating of 9 out of 10 stars. Then we went to the stage show Peachtree Battle at the Ansley Park Playhouse http://www.ansleyparkplayhouse.com/. This is a pretty well known show that has run for seven years. I am not really a big fan of stage shows, so I will give this show a 7 out of 10 stars. I'm sure my wife would give it a higher rating -- I think she really enjoyed it. After that, we all went to Cafe Intermezzo http://www.cafeintermezzo.com/ for late dessert and coffee. I had a really excellent chocolate and pecan pie type dessert that I will give a 9 out of 10 stars. It was nice to get out with friends and celebrate 15 years of marital bliss!!

08/14/08 - The Great Facebook Debate !!
I joined Facebook a few months ago. I am too old for that. I actually joined because those who know me know that I like to play Texas Hold 'em Poker, and I thought that http://www.facebook.com/ had different poker tournaments online than where I was playing at http://www.fullhouseholdem.com/. It turns out that the tournaments were the same, so I never really used Facebook. My cousin moved to London, so my wife and I now try to keep up with her through Facebook, and also my wife's sister uses it, so I only ever added my cousin and sister-in-law as friends. Now the friend requests have started coming in, and I have pretty much ignored them, but now I am starting to feel a little guilty. Then my friend from college Amy sent me a friend request and I could not ignore it. So, now I have three friends, and I think I am going to have to respond to most of the others (although some people request and I am like "Who is that?"). My wife thinks I'm too old to be doing this, and I think she is probably right, but I can really justify it by thinking of it as a business networking tool. My profile has the links to both of my business websites, so what if my old friend Cam, who has moved to Hollywood, has a big friend who needs big clothes, then Cam can say "Hey, check out my buddies webstore. You can order online!" Why not? I don't want to be a jerk who ignores everybody, especially people that I was good friends with 15 or 20 years ago but haven't seen for a while. So, look out Facebook!! Here I come!! By the way, if you like playing poker, you should definitely check out http://www.fullhouseholdem.com/. You can play online and win real money with zero risk of losing money. I have won a little over $300.00 since I started.

08/13/08 - I have been wanting to start a blog for a while, and I think and hope that this will work out. So, where do I start? I went to a new (for me) buying show in Chicago this past Monday. I had the brilliant idea to fly up in the morning and leave late Monday afternoon, so I would not have to fool with a hotel room. I got up at 5:45am and headed to the airport. By the time I made it there and went through the security line, I ended up being the very last person to board the plane. I figure that if I was even 60 seconds later, I would have missed the flight. I got to Chicago and got on the Orange line of the El, and of course it breaks down, though at least it was at the Roosevelt stop. So I got on the Red line, and then tried to find my way to the Merchandise Mart. I guess I got off at the wrong stop and ended up having to walk about 20 blocks to the Mart. I took me almost 2 hours to get from Midway to the Mart! So, I was there and I had the main goal of finding UGA shirts. I was able to order a few button up fancy prints, but I ordered a bunch of solid black golf shirts, T-shirts, sweat shorts, and sweatpants, all with the G logo from Russell Athletic. Hopefully, everything should be in in a few weeks. I think we are going to sell A LOT of UGA stuff this season (UGA #1, baby). I did also order some UGA ties, but they are just regular length, not extra long. I, of course, did order more things, most notably more Big Daddy T-shirts, some nice Argyle sweater vests, and other standard dress pants, solid blazers, and some new styles of belts. So, I finished at the show earlier than I thought, and remembering my close call from the morning, I decided to go back to the airport early. I figured there might be some earlier flights that I could try to fly standby on. I was able to go from the Mart back to Midway in only 30 minutes! That was even during rush hour, so I felt like a pro. I got to the airport at 4:00, and my plane did not leave until 7:30. Then, when I checked in, I found out that my plane had been delayed for two hours! I also saw that there were two flights before mine to Atlanta, so I went to the gates, and then the waiting started. I did not get on either flight, and mine was delayed yet another half hour later. I finally boarded about 10:00, and we got back into Atlanta at 1:00am on Tuesday morning. By the time I got home and in bed, it was 2:45am. So, my day lasted 21 hours, and I spent 6 1/2 hours at Midway just trying to fly home. But, if you ever want to know anything about Midway, let me know, because I think I am now an expert! But I am back and here in the store, and almost recovered (but my brain is only at about 50% capacity). There, that is my first blog! How did I do? Please feel free to contact me with any feedback. Thanks!
