Blog posts from 08/13/08 to 08/15/08

08/15/08 - My wife and I went out last night to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary with our friends Parker http://www.cmamlaw.com/ and Melissa. We first met at Uncle Julio's Restaurant http://www.unclejulios.com/ on Peachtree. It was a nice place, and we were kind of in a hurry, so they were able to get us in and out pretty quick. I had the chicken enchiladas, which were very good. I will give them a rating of 9 out of 10 stars. Then we went to the stage show Peachtree Battle at the Ansley Park Playhouse http://www.ansleyparkplayhouse.com/. This is a pretty well known show that has run for seven years. I am not really a big fan of stage shows, so I will give this show a 7 out of 10 stars. I'm sure my wife would give it a higher rating -- I think she really enjoyed it. After that, we all went to Cafe Intermezzo http://www.cafeintermezzo.com/ for late dessert and coffee. I had a really excellent chocolate and pecan pie type dessert that I will give a 9 out of 10 stars. It was nice to get out with friends and celebrate 15 years of marital bliss!!

08/14/08 - The Great Facebook Debate !!
I joined Facebook a few months ago. I am too old for that. I actually joined because those who know me know that I like to play Texas Hold 'em Poker, and I thought that http://www.facebook.com/ had different poker tournaments online than where I was playing at http://www.fullhouseholdem.com/. It turns out that the tournaments were the same, so I never really used Facebook. My cousin moved to London, so my wife and I now try to keep up with her through Facebook, and also my wife's sister uses it, so I only ever added my cousin and sister-in-law as friends. Now the friend requests have started coming in, and I have pretty much ignored them, but now I am starting to feel a little guilty. Then my friend from college Amy sent me a friend request and I could not ignore it. So, now I have three friends, and I think I am going to have to respond to most of the others (although some people request and I am like "Who is that?"). My wife thinks I'm too old to be doing this, and I think she is probably right, but I can really justify it by thinking of it as a business networking tool. My profile has the links to both of my business websites, so what if my old friend Cam, who has moved to Hollywood, has a big friend who needs big clothes, then Cam can say "Hey, check out my buddies webstore. You can order online!" Why not? I don't want to be a jerk who ignores everybody, especially people that I was good friends with 15 or 20 years ago but haven't seen for a while. So, look out Facebook!! Here I come!! By the way, if you like playing poker, you should definitely check out http://www.fullhouseholdem.com/. You can play online and win real money with zero risk of losing money. I have won a little over $300.00 since I started.

08/13/08 - I have been wanting to start a blog for a while, and I think and hope that this will work out. So, where do I start? I went to a new (for me) buying show in Chicago this past Monday. I had the brilliant idea to fly up in the morning and leave late Monday afternoon, so I would not have to fool with a hotel room. I got up at 5:45am and headed to the airport. By the time I made it there and went through the security line, I ended up being the very last person to board the plane. I figure that if I was even 60 seconds later, I would have missed the flight. I got to Chicago and got on the Orange line of the El, and of course it breaks down, though at least it was at the Roosevelt stop. So I got on the Red line, and then tried to find my way to the Merchandise Mart. I guess I got off at the wrong stop and ended up having to walk about 20 blocks to the Mart. I took me almost 2 hours to get from Midway to the Mart! So, I was there and I had the main goal of finding UGA shirts. I was able to order a few button up fancy prints, but I ordered a bunch of solid black golf shirts, T-shirts, sweat shorts, and sweatpants, all with the G logo from Russell Athletic. Hopefully, everything should be in in a few weeks. I think we are going to sell A LOT of UGA stuff this season (UGA #1, baby). I did also order some UGA ties, but they are just regular length, not extra long. I, of course, did order more things, most notably more Big Daddy T-shirts, some nice Argyle sweater vests, and other standard dress pants, solid blazers, and some new styles of belts. So, I finished at the show earlier than I thought, and remembering my close call from the morning, I decided to go back to the airport early. I figured there might be some earlier flights that I could try to fly standby on. I was able to go from the Mart back to Midway in only 30 minutes! That was even during rush hour, so I felt like a pro. I got to the airport at 4:00, and my plane did not leave until 7:30. Then, when I checked in, I found out that my plane had been delayed for two hours! I also saw that there were two flights before mine to Atlanta, so I went to the gates, and then the waiting started. I did not get on either flight, and mine was delayed yet another half hour later. I finally boarded about 10:00, and we got back into Atlanta at 1:00am on Tuesday morning. By the time I got home and in bed, it was 2:45am. So, my day lasted 21 hours, and I spent 6 1/2 hours at Midway just trying to fly home. But, if you ever want to know anything about Midway, let me know, because I think I am now an expert! But I am back and here in the store, and almost recovered (but my brain is only at about 50% capacity). There, that is my first blog! How did I do? Please feel free to contact me with any feedback. Thanks!
